Runner's knee (Patellofemoral pain syndrome) is one of the most common injuries in runners.
Symptoms
Pain below or around the kneecap. Increases when descending stairs, sitting for long periods or running.
Causes
Overload, weak quadriceps muscles, wrong shoe choice, sudden training increase.
Treatment
RICE protocol first (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation). Then physical therapy and strengthening exercises.
Prevention
Strengthen quadriceps and hip muscles. Gradually increase training load. Use correct shoes.
When to See a Doctor?
If pain lasts more than 2 weeks, if there is swelling or range of motion limitation, definitely see a doctor.
